Life is full of ups and downs and there’s nothing you can do to avoid that. There will be times when you will get hurt, be it mentally or physically. The one thing you have control over is deciding how you will let that pain affect you and whether you will use it to grow or let it hold you back.

Pain is a necessary part of life because without it you cannot expect success. No matter what you’re trying to do, be it bodybuilding, learning a language, starting a business, or pushing your own capabilities to improve yourself, there will be times when you will be in pain. If you wish to be better than you are now, you’ll need to be able to get out from where you’re comfortable and redefine your limits.

If you’re going through a tough time, it is best to stick it out. A lot of people get scared and try to turn back but they can’t run from their own selves. You will only be able to sort things out if you deal with the situation. Life has many painful parts but without confronting that pain, you will not be able to gain from it.

Most people are just really scared of the unknown. It is as if we’ve carried that childhood fear of the monster under the bed and applied it to the other parts of our lives as well. We think it is just easier if we stay blind and deaf to the rumbling we can hear under ourselves. The best parts of our lives are lost in this foolhardy attempt to run away from the pain that emanates within us.

The problem is that we have started painting pain as something to be feared. We dread it so much that we go to great lengths to avoid it, even if it means losing out on something important in the process. If we can just put on a brave face and peek under the bed, if we just try to confront those demons that live inside of us, and if we just push forward despite their efforts to make us turn back, we will finally see that there was actually nothing under the bed all this time.
